History

ETL Solutions Ltd and its software suite, Transformation Manager (TM), has a history that extends as far back as 1996.

Founded in April 2002 as a management buyout of Enterprise Transformation Server (ETS) and the development team based in Blaenau Ffestiniog in North Wales, UK by three senior executives from Prism Technologies who form the management team today.

In 1996 Prism Technologies started developing EXPRESSIVE, a transformation syntax based on the ISO standard EXPRESS-X (ISO 10303) language. A month later, an RDBMS Data Transformation Tool based on EXPRESSIVE was developed. The project was initially sponsored by Shell and POSC (now Energistics) with the resulting toolset being named OpenMigrator v1.0.

In the following years, several updates of the product were released, including version 2 in April 1998 and version 3 in January 1999; new features were added, such as Java Run-Time environment in v3 and XML support using Xpath in February 2000. Over this time the toolset was still largely used internally to deliver projects for Prism’s clients. However, in January 2001 OpenMigrator was re-launched as ETS v1.0 and was purchased by its first user, Deutsche Bank. The early success was not sufficient to safeguard the product’s future under Prism as the technology bubble burst and Prism decided to concentrate on its core offering, namely CORBA services.

A year later, in March 2002, the management team at ETL Solutions secured the necessary funding, including investment from Finance Wales Investments Ltd and the National Assembly for Wales. A month later ETL Solutions Ltd was founded and ETS re-branded as Transformation Manager (TM).

Over the following 12-18 months the team accelerated product development and sought to build market presence in two key sectors, namely Investment Banking and Geoscience. ETL and TM, having been successful in both sectors, have since developed other areas including Defense, Supply Chain and Auto manufacturers. The factors influencing the success have been the product’s strength in handling challenging data integration requirements, its unique Java component generation, continued innovation, and the responsiveness, expertise and professionalism of the product and integration services team.

ETL have built an enviable reputation for delivering the highest quality service, whether in support of TM users, or in implementing end-to-end integration solutions for clients and partners.
