SAP Integration - How is it done??
SO HOW IS IT DONE?
Transforms are created in the TM Design Tool using a drag and drop paradigm and when creating transforms the model including all constraints is displayed. TM provides numerous data quality features and is easily able to validate SAP data when reading and writing. A single transform statement will ensure that all model constraints (including help values) are enforced. Quality and audit trails are easily incorporated.
TM extracts metadata from the SAP BAPI or IDOC (or XML) structure and from the other system to be integrated to (Flat file, XML, Database, CSV file) and presents an easy to read and write User Interface to perform the mapping of fields to each other.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
What this means is the data integration process starts at the business level, don’t get scared now!, and thus takes away the issue of trying to get access to valuable IT resources.
Super users in departments are very familiar in the requirements of the interface required and recognise the fields needed to extract from or load to SAP, let’s be honest how many times have you written a report or interface spec to be coded!!The super user then accesses builds the interface required through a simple to use Graphical User Interface (GUI) by dragging the fields that need to be interfaced.
Using the test tool the business user can then see how the interface will work in reality.
All this can be done on the Super Users LAPTOP or DESKTOP!
Example Transform below – Invoic01 to flat file
Using TM to provide data integration is extremely easy and cost-effective. Making synchronous and asynchronous connections using any of SAP’s published interfaces is a straightforward task.
Once created, transforms are easily understood by business analysts, and bring all the benefits normally associated with such a feature-rich ETL tool as TM:
§ Simple to use design, test, debugging and deployment environment
§ Transforms are easily updated as the business changes
§ A rich set of Data Quality and Reporting features are included
§ Regression tests can be implemented to ensure systems are truly in sync. Transforms are easily maintained as business requirements change
